The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) provides free CBC curriculum designs for Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary schools, supporting the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) that Kenya has adopted to enhance practical skills, creativity, and critical thinking. These curriculum designs outline essential learning objectives, competencies, and key areas of focus tailored for each grade level, from early childhood education to secondary school.
For Pre-Primary (PP1 and PP2), the curriculum emphasizes foundational skills in language, social interaction, and basic numeracy, nurturing children’s curiosity and social skills. In Primary education (Grades 1-6), the curriculum expands to cover literacy, numeracy, social studies, and life skills, helping students develop core competencies across various subjects. In JSS Secondary education (Grades 7-12), students delve into more specialized subjects, including sciences, humanities, and technical skills, preparing them for further education or vocational paths.
KICD’s curriculum designs are available online, providing easy access for teachers, parents, and students to reference learning outcomes and subject outlines. By offering these resources freely, KICD supports equitable access to quality education across Kenya, enabling teachers to guide students effectively within the CBC framework.
Below you will find the new KICD curriculum designs for rationalized CBC learning areas for grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
